In a Milk and Honeyed LandIn a Milk and Honeyed Land by Richard Abbott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“In a Milk and Honeyed Land” is a wonderfully written novel full of a very particular history. Set within a small town that is introduced to the reader as Keprath, some parts of Damariel's tale is like reading the Old Testament.

On a side note, I hosted this author on my blog and came to know that the author has a PhD in Egyptian poetry. This shines through in the body of the novel. The language is exceptional with some wonderful turns of phrase that I had never heard before.

The importance of the community is emphasised through religious belief, unhappy marriages, dysfunctional relationships, anger, betrayal and so much more. Dr.Abbott develops strong characters not just in terms of writing but also where their own behaviours are concerned.

Hardships and crisis break their spirit momentarily but the human spirit and sense of togetherness helps the characters survive and move on regardless. All in all a unique and satisfying book.
